Early Ironman Money Making OSRS
Eclipse Red wines at the Hunter Guild (290k/hr) is the best early GP method if you have Varlamore access. Otherwise, Agility Pyramid (150k/hr) is the classic reliable option. Gem cutting in Aldarin trains Crafting while making money.
Early ironman GP is for one thing: funding buyable skills. Construction planks, kingdom coffers, and the occasional shop purchase. You don’t need millions — you need enough to keep progressing without stalling.
Here are the methods worth your time, ranked by GP/hour.
Eclipse Red Wines (~290k GP/hr)
The best early money method if you have Varlamore access.
Requirements:
- Children of the Sun quest
- Access to Hunter Guild
Method:
- Pick up Eclipse Red wine spawns at the Hunter Guild
- World hop to reset spawns
- Sell to Moonrise Wines shop in Aldarin for 700 GP each
The shop price never decreases, so you can sell as many as you collect. Each wine also heals 16 HP, making them useful as food if you don’t sell them all.
Gem Cutting at Aldarin (~225k GP/hr)
Money making that also trains Crafting — efficient use of time.
Requirements:
- 20 Crafting (27+ recommended for emeralds)
- Children of the Sun quest
Method:
- Buy uncut gems from Toci’s Gem Store in Aldarin
- Cut them
- Sell back for profit
The margin exists because cut gems sell for more than uncut. You’re getting paid to train Crafting — hard to argue with that.
Agility Pyramid (~150k GP/hr)
The classic ironman money method. No quest requirements, no competition, just you and the pyramid.
Requirements:
- 30 Agility (60+ recommended to reduce fails)
Method:
- Complete the Agility Pyramid course
- Trade pyramid tops to Simon Templeton for 10,000 GP each
At 30 Agility you’ll fail a lot and the GP/hr suffers. At 60+ it becomes much smoother. Either way, it’s reliable and has been funding ironmen since 2013.
Thieving (90-130k GP/hr)
Multiple thieving methods work for early GP, depending on your level and preferences.
HAM Storerooms (Early)
Pick locks on HAM storeroom chests for jewellery. Sell to shops or alch later. Good if you’re already in the area for HAM members (easy clue items).
Requirements: 20 Thieving
Wealthy Citizens (~90k GP/hr)
Pickpocket wealthy citizens in Varlamore. Very AFK — street urchins distract them every 84-99 seconds, giving you windows of 100% success.
Requirements: 50 Thieving, Children of the Sun
Ardy Knights (70-130k GP/hr)
The classic. Pickpocket Ardougne Knights with dodgy necklaces to reduce stun time. More click-intensive than Wealthy Citizens but slightly better GP.
Requirements: 55 Thieving (higher = better), dodgy necklaces
Last Man Standing (Varies)
If you’re comfortable with PvP, LMS is excellent for supplies and GP.
Requirements: PvP skill (seriously — this isn’t for everyone)
Method:
- Play Last Man Standing
- Earn points
- Buy rune arrows and supplies from the reward shop
The GP/hr depends entirely on how good you are. If you’re winning games, it’s one of the best methods. If you’re dying immediately, skip this and do wines instead.
Crack the Clue 3 (~400k GP/hr)
A niche method that requires one-time setup.
This involves solving a puzzle and gathering specific items to unlock a repeatable money method. High GP once set up, but the setup itself takes time and research.
Worth looking into if you enjoy puzzles and want a unique money maker. Not essential — the methods above will fund your account just fine.
Selling Items to Shops
Not a money making method per se, but knowing where to sell items matters for ironmen. Two shops stand out:
Bandit Duty Free (Wilderness)
The general store in the Bandit Camp (level 17-24 Wilderness) buys items at higher prices than normal shops. The lore reason: tax collectors don’t visit, so the bandit running it passes the savings on.
Good for: Selling alchables and junk you don’t want to high alch yet.
Risk: It’s in the Wilderness. Bring only what you’re selling.
Jiminua’s Jungle Store (Karamja)
With Karamja gloves 3 or 4 equipped, you can sell items here for 55% of their GE value — significantly better than the standard ~40% at most shops.
Requirements: Hard Karamja Diary (gloves 3) or Elite (gloves 4)
This is a mid-game unlock, but worth knowing about. Once you have the gloves, it’s the best general-purpose shop for selling.
What Do You Actually Need GP For?
Before grinding millions, consider what you’re saving for:
| Goal | Rough Cost | Priority |
|---|---|---|
| Construction (83) | 15-25M | High |
| Kingdom of Miscellania | 750k + 75k/day | Medium |
| Rune pouches, shop supplies | 1-2M | Low |
| Buying runes from shops | Ongoing | Low |
You don’t need to grind money for hours. Do enough to fund your current goals, then get back to progressing your account. More GP comes naturally through Slayer and PvM later.
Summary
| Method | GP/hr | Requirements | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Eclipse Red Wines | ~290k | Varlamore access | Best early method |
| Gem Cutting (Aldarin) | ~225k | 20+ Crafting, Varlamore | Also trains Crafting |
| Agility Pyramid | ~150k | 30+ Agility | Classic, no setup |
| Thieving | 90-130k | Varies | Multiple options |
| LMS | Varies | PvP skill | Only if you’re good |
Recommendation: If you have Varlamore access, do Eclipse wines. If not, Agility Pyramid until you unlock Varlamore. Gem cutting is great if you want to train Crafting at the same time.
